Located in the former convent of Ascension Church,
Ascension Place houses up to thirty-two women suffering from mental
illness and/or chemical dependency. Many of the women who stay with
us have histories of abuse, homelessness, and other emotional and
physical traumas. Women are referred to our program from shelters,
hospitals, social workers, and physicians. Following an intake interview,
our staff members determine the individuals whose needs best fit
the program’s services.
The programs at Ascension Place are geared towards
helping residents become as self-sufficient as their circumstances
allow, through case management, support groups, education, and activities.
Each woman is assigned an advocate, who works with the woman to
develop an individual progress plan. We offer a variety of on-site
programs geared towards emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.
Women are permitted to live at Ascension Place until they find suitable
housing in a healthy environment, provided they are continuing to
work towards their defined goals. The average stay is approximately
four months and we house approximately 80 women per year.
