Next Step Housing provides permanent supportive housing – both site-based and scattered site – to approximately 31 women and families. Each client lives in a one- or two-bedroom apartment, and pay rent supported by GRH, a state-funded subsidy. Up to 11 women live site-based in North Minneapolis, and we support approximately 20 women and families living in scattered site apartments throughout Hennepin County.
Most Next Step Housing residents have encountered homelessness or other crises, and face ongoing barriers to full independence. Case managers work with women to maintain housing stability, coordinate community services, set and achieve personal goals, improve credit, maintain relationships with landlords, achieve education and career goals, and improve physical, mental and emotional health. A variety of staff-led activities and outings – art activities, holiday parties, theater performances, etc. – build community among clients, reduce the negative effects of social isolation, help women build emotional strength, and promote health and wellness.
